Confusing Pregnancy update

So this doesn't really make sense, but the ultrasound results say the baby is in the 59% for height and weight, they even chart it out, but the height of my fundus is still like 3 weeks behind. As a result I'm going to be doing non stress tests twice a week. I guess the baby is just really curled up or something. Also, now I can totally feel the pregnancy symptoms full force I'm way tired all the time and I'm getting swollen in my hands and feet, but don't worry no pre-eclampsia. Just a few more days to go!

No, I haven't gone into labor yet....

Just to give you an update since I'm already receiving anxious phone calls from family and friends! The due date is still officially September 12th, but it might be revised. I had another ultrasound last Thursday because they want to rule out IUGR since my uterus was measuring small (as it has been the whole time) so no real surprise. I learned why they do ultrasounds at 5 months, by 9 months the baby is so chubby its hard to see anything, but its really cute! The radiologist is going to compare this ultrasound to the earlier ones to see how the baby is growing, but everything looked good to me, she already has chubby arms and a smashed into the side of the uterus little chubby face. I asked the ultrasound tech to double check to make sure she's a girl, and it was funny because she was like well, I really can't tell. By 9 months any genitals are so swollen from hormones and chubbiness it could go either way, but don't worry, I'm still about 90% sure its a girl. I'm going to make a calling tree so you'll all find out when the contractions really do start!

this month flew right by....

hi all, just checking in. i'm finishing up my rotation here at alhambra medical hospital with dr. lai. it is a VERY easy laid back rotation. it only gets hectic when a. there are alot of patients and you have to manage like 4 or 5 patients and b. when you have lectures scheduled at lunch.

at first i was very intimidated because it was practically my first rotation. i was unsure and felt stupid. but now it comes easily. dr. lai is VERY laid back. he pimps you, but it's ok if you don't know anything; plus he takes you out to eat your last week. there are no residents above you so you are basically working on your own and it's all inpatient. hopefully when you rotate through there will be 4th years there with you to show you around. by the middle of the 2nd week you should be used to everything.

so your typical day basically consists of coming in at 9ish, look at your patients charts and get updated on them, examine your patient and write a progress note or if you have a new patient do an H&P. then you eat lunch if you have time, which you should, and dr. lai comes in for rounds from anywhere between 1230 to 2. you should be out by 4 at the latest. the earliest i've ever gone home is at 2. you write your own notes, dr. lai lets you write the orders. the main thing is to just know your patients really well, why they're there, their current status, labs, studies, radiology, meds etc etc. i suggest keeping a table much like they do in downey(for those of you who have rotated there). it basically is a table that has all the info about your patient: dx, diet, labs, studies, things to do, meds--and you update it everyday so when he asks you things, it's right there as a reference.

btw the FP rotation and the IM rotation at Alhambra is EXACTLY THE SAME THING. So Sheila, this is what you have to look forward to. :)

free breakfast and lunch...and hopefully by the time you rotate through there, there will still be free shaved ice!(halo halo!)

missing you guys!!
